Hi Karen. My grandma and grandpa Ernest and Inez Baker. I grew up on Tama road, son of don Bates and Nacy Baker Bates. Grandma was a Miller from New Cordyn and Grandma Fern Miller was a Huey, married to Perry Miller. Are these Huey’s part of the same?

    Thanks

    Travis Bates

    1. Hi Travis! Yes, our Hueys are connected. (Our Millers are not.) I found Perry and Fern’s marriage record, which gives their parents’ names. It appears that Imo “Fern” Huey was the daughter of Troy and Bertha (Holmes) Huey. Troy was the son of Jonas (1833-1909) and Susanna (Bishop) Huey. The Hueys came from Pennsylvania and their relationships are complicated, but interesting. According to my Roots Magic genealogy program, I am a third cousin 3 times removed AND a fourth cousin 3 times removed AND a fifth cousin 2 times removed to Fern Huey. Our common ancestors are Jonas & Elisabeth Huey; Jonas & Unknown; and Elizabeth. That would be the older Jonas Huey (1769-1848). As I said, the Huey/Bryan/Whiteman relationships are complicated.
PS-I went to school with your Uncle Bill.

Hi Karen, My father was Harold Burr Miller, oldest born son of Perry and Fern Miller. He was born December 30, 1929 and passed on October 2, 2013.

    1. Great to hear from you! I could use some information from your branch of the family. I will be in contact. Thanks for writing.

I am related to the Hueys and Whitemans. Elizabeth Caroline Huey was my great, great grandmother. She was the wife of John Wesley Gray and died 3 months after giving birth to her 4th child, Rebecka/Rebecca. I’ve never found what happened to Rebecca, but know she lived for several years. Elizabeth is buried in Pinkney Cemetery. Elizabeth’s mother was Mary Whiteman Huey (Husband Isaac Huey). She is also buried in Pinkney Cemetery. Mary’s father was Christian Whiteman. I’m trying to locate documentation to connect Elizabeth and Mary to Christian for DAR purposes. Would love to find photos of Elizabeth, Mary & Christian. I am a DAR newby.

    1. Hello cousin and welcome to the DAR! I joined the DAR with Christian Whiteman as my patriot ancestor. I do not know what happened to Rebecca either, but will do a little searching. Did John Gray marry again after Elizabeth’s death? I show he was possibly married to a Harriet. I am glad you wrote and I will contact you privately so we can discuss this more and share information. Thanks for writing!
