More 1910 Plat Maps of Blackcreek Township

This week I decided to post some more of the Blackcreek Township plat maps from the 1910 Decennial Appraisement book.

Last week I posted images of sections 29-32, sections which are on both sides of State Route 49 going north from Chatt. Today’s section images continue north toward Willshire, again on both sides of Route 49, and include sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 17, 18, 19, and 20..

Below is a map of Blackcreek Township to aid in locations.

Thanks Karen. I checked some things out regarding the Whites in Section 18. Martha E White and William White evidently owned the section that borders the Indiana State Line on Rockford West Road. Charles E. White is their oldest son which in Section 18 shows the area that borders Rockford West Road and St. Rt. 49. This portion is the area that was originally owned by Michael Branstetter and Leahline Carmack Branstetter. My records indicate that they lived there all their lives after emigrating from Bavaria. Their daughter Nora Branstetter White married Charles E. White. So they either inherited the portion from Nora’s parents or purchased. So there lives on the White legacy through Phillip/Helen White and their family. I believe that Charlie still lives along Rockford West Road today. I do remember my Grandma Martha White Bollenbacher delivering family meals to her brother, Floyd on holidays. I think it may have been on the White original homestead on Rockford West. She would never let us kids go but remember my Dad, Bob and Tim delivering the meals.

It is interesting all the things you provide to us. I tried to make copies or print of both the White and Graubarger sections but was not successful. Guess we can always refer to your website for record. Thanks so much,
    Deb

Deb – Phillip White still lives on Wilson Road in the same house he and Helen Jean lived in for years. Floyd White’s place was the next house west, at the corner of Wilson and Stetler Roads. Dad farmed for both of them and I used to drive the tractor and work ground around their buildings. Floyd’s farmstead was purchased by Amish and they built a bigger house (they have 12 kids!!!) and a large commercial duck operation. Interesting how some things change dramatically over the years, while others stay pretty much the same.

Hi Deb. It looks like there is 80 acres between the two White properties. Not sure where Floyd lived but I do remember going out to Philip’s with Dad when he needed the lawn mower fixed!! Hey, you know we do live in the same town. Maybe we should get together sometime. We don’t seem to get to see each other much anymore. Tom keeps up with your Mom and Dad through Betty. Good to hear from you. Question – does the name of Rockford West Road change to Wilson west of Route 49? I swear Phillip lives on Rockford West just west of 49.

    1. Thanks for the additional information and recollections Deb and Deb! Very helpful and interesting.

Hi , my Sell family name has roots in Black Creek and Dublin Townships. Are there tax maps for 1910 and 1920 showing names of residents? I saw one in 1900 for Black Creek but I can’t find any later ones. Thanks for any help.

    1. Not that I know of, but there may be. I do have scans of the 1910 Decennial Appraisement of Black Creek and Liberty Townships here on the website, listed by section, under Mercer County Maps. Dublin Township’s appraisement is probably at the courthouse, but I did not scan it.
