This is the tombstone of August Jacob Trisel, located in row 8 of East Bethel Cemetery, Blackcreek Township, Mercer County, Ohio. This marker is inscribed:

AUGUST
J
Son of
Henry & E.
Trisel
Died
Sept 24
1888
Aged
11Y, 6M, 8D

Augustus “August” Jacob Trisel was born in March of 1877 in Blackcreek Township, Mercer County, Ohio, to Henry and Elizabeth (Feldmann) Trisel.

The on-line FamilySearch.org index of the Mercer County, Ohio, probate birth records indicates that August was born 16 May 1877 in Blackcreek Township to Henry and Elizabeth “Fullman” Tressel. [1] However, after looking at the image of the original record on-line I believe the month is March and not May. Zion Chatt’s church records indicate that his mother’s maiden name was Feldmann, not Fullman.

August was enumerated in only one census, the 1880 census, and was enumerated with his family. The Trisel family is indexed as “Grisel” so it took a little time to find them in the 1880 census. In the Trisel household: Henry, 46; Elisabeth, 40; Margret, 11; Jacob, 9; Elisabeth, 6; Augustus, 3. Henry and Elisabeth were born in Germany and their children were born in Ohio. [2]

August Trisel’s death and burial are recorded in Zion Chatt’s records although he is not buried in Zion’s Cemetery. Zion’s minister likely officiated at his funeral and the church record indicates that he was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Trisel, born 10 March 1877. Zion’s records also show that August died 24 September 1888 and was buried in East Bethel Cemetery on the 25th.

August’s death is also recorded in Mercer County probate, recorded as 20 September 1888. This record indicates that he died of an inflammation of the brain and gives his age as 11 years, 11 months, and 6 days. [3]
