This is the tombstone of Anthony G. Stegmeier, located in row 11 of Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm, Van Wert County, Ohio. The marker is inscribed:
Christened Georg Adam Anton Stegmeier, he went by the name of Anthony or Tony. Anthony was born in Van Wert County, Ohio, on 26 September 1886, the son of Leonard and Katharina (Rettig) Stegmeier. He was baptized at home on 10 October 1886, with George Grund and Adam Sauer serving as his sponsors.
The Leonard Stegmeier family in 1900, living near Willshire: Leonard, 43; Katharine, 40; Charles G, 16; Anton G, 14; and Nettie, 2. The father Leonard was a farmer, born in Germany, who immigrated in 1879. Everyone else in the household was born in Ohio. Katharine had given birth to 4 children and 3 were living. 
In 1910 the Leonard Stegmeier family lived in Willshire Township, where Anthony, at the age of 23, worked at a sawmill, perhaps the sawmill at Schumm. 
Anthony Stegmeier married Anna Giessler on 6 July 1916 in Van Wert County, Ohio. Anna was the daughter of William and Phoebe (Schaadt) Geissler. Anthony was a common laborer and Anna was a housekeeper. 
Three children were born to Anthony and Anna within the next four years, Kenneth, Kathleen, and Doyt.
In 1920 the Anthony Stegmeier family lived on Glenmore Road. The family consisted of Anthony, 32; Anna, 29, Kenneth, 2, and Kathleen, 1. Anthony was a laborer. 
The wife Anna (Geissler) Stegmeier died on 16 June 1928, at the age of 37 years.
Anthony died of heart disease less than a year later. He died near Venedocia, Ohio, on 28 February 1929, at the age of 42 years, 5 months, and 2 days. He was buried on 3 March and Buchanan and Sons were in charge of the arrangements.
