Hello: First of all, this is a great website! I found it on my lunch hour at work, and now it’s way past my lunch hour, and I really should get back to work, but I’m totally engrossed in the pictures.RE: Shinnerer/Scaer Unk #19: We have a copy of this same photo of my G-Grandparents (my Father’s Father’s parents), Henry (1844-1922) and Magdalena Geissler (or Geisler) Schumm 1868 – 1946(?) of Willshire. Magdalena, or Lena as they called her was Henry’s 2nd wife, and 24 years younger than him. They are buried in the Schumm cemetary. Henry’s first wife was Rosina Shinnerer, and I may also have a photo of those two in an almost exact same pose also. My Grandfather, Herman Schumm, said they called his dad “River Henry”, because there were 2 Henry Schumm’s in Willshire around the same time, and that’s how they distinguished the two. My Grandfather grew up right on the St. Mary’s River, in a home that is no longer standing. Magdalena was the daughter of George and Rosina Hoffman Shinnerer Geisler, and had a twin sister Catherine.

Thanks Carol! Thank you for identifying Henry and Magdalena in the photo. I will caption the photo and place it in the Schumm Gallery. I had hoped that someone would be able to identify some of these photos. Your grandfather Herman’s brother Louis (“Louie”), with the help of Bill Baker, built my parents’ home in about 1957. Thanks for writing and sharing your information. This is great!

Karen, Glad I could help! We’re in the process of packing up to move during the next few months. If I come across more family photo’s, I’ll email them to you. I do have a phenominal panoramic of the Schumm church and all the members sitting outside around 1921 (?), which Grandpa Herman bought at an antique store in Van Wert and gave to me. I think it was from the 75 anniversary of the church. Hopefully I can figure out how to copy that and get it to you.

I remember well, Grandpa talking about Louie, and think I actually met him once when I was little. And you also mention Milton and Betty Schumm, our family was very close to them, his parents Uncle Willie and Aunt Mary, and sisters Erma and Elsie. Do you ever go to the Schumm Reunions? We haven’t been in about 8 years, but hope to make it out there next summer.

    Keep up the great work!

I would love to see any photos you would care to share. I also have a large panoramic photo of what I believe was a Schumm Reunion years ago. I should try to somehow scan it.

I have been to the last 2 Schumm reunions. You should try to attend one in the future. You would enjoy it. Did you know that we compiled a new Schumm History and Genealogy book last year? Maybe you already have one.

      Again, thanks for writing.

We had a Farmall tractor like that when I was real young. It was Grandpa Mike Kallenbergers. No idea if that is the same one. Just remember that Wes Kallenberger was the only one who could get it running. (Max’s Dad). Just remember it as the old Farmall F12. Don’t recognize the man on the tractor.
