The story I heard about Herbert was he had appendicitis and had to be operated on the kitchen table at home. I have a family picture of where all of his brothers and sisters are in the picture but someone (Photoshopped) his picture into the back row. He would have been my grandmother’s brother.

Thanks for that information. I could not locate his death certificate in Mercer County and the church record is very difficult to read. It was written in German. I plan to look for an obituary the next time I get to Van Wert. I may even look at Geneva since that paper sometimes had Chattanooga items. Thanks for writing!
